Happy Easter ~  It promises to be a memorable one!  Not in the way of the “normal” pomp and circumstance of Easter Sunday, with lilies fragrancing the air, and favorite hymns sung en masse to booming organ or orchestras.  No. We have Corona; we can’t smell and we can’t gather. Instead, we stay home and observe this holiday, sheltered in place, as the disciples were on Easter, quietly drawing on the essence of Jesus life, and death, and his teachings:

I am the way, the truth, and the life.  If you want to experience heaven, follow my ways.  If you wanna see God, look at the people who are as I am, using their hands and feet to do God’s work–   They are starting face shield companies. Donating masks to hospitals. Volunteering to do front-line deliveries.  Phoning friends. Sheltering in place. Comforting and teaching children. Delivering food. Supporting local business.  Serving, trusting, forgiving, loving, including, accepting one another, regardless of circumstance. Regardless of religion.

Jesus also said pray for your enemies.  Now there’s an Easter challenge. In Metta Meditation, we send loving kindness to all~ Individuals, ourselves, those we love, and those we don’t care for.  Maybe today we pray for everyone, as Jesus called us to do, including our leaders and lawmakers, people from all countries and all walks of life; those equipped for the challenges that lie ahead and those who aren’t.  That we all replace judgment with acceptance, and frustration with forgiveness.  That we all replace fear with faith, and hatred with agape, the most selfless and charitable kind of love.   We’ve already replaced our Sunday best with our same day sweats; let’s try this on for Easter too!

“Agape does not begin by discriminating between worthy and unworthy people…It begins by loving others for their sakes” and “makes no distinction between a friend and enemy; it is directed toward both…Agape is love seeking to preserve and create community.”

Dr. Martin Luther King

Much like the promise of Easter, or a glorious spring day, there is still weather and challenge ahead.  Corona came in like a lion, perhaps together, with agape, we can help it go out like a lamb.

Happy Easter !!! May it be filled with agape, and gratitude~

Enjoy this day, and these observances below. We’ve endured 46 pretty tough days of Lent year, but done so somewhat mindfully. Thanks for checking out 40days of peace and self care this year. Who knew? I’ll continue with one or two reflections a week on self care & Corona for a bit longer. ( Who really knows? Certainly not me!) Thanks for being with me, cheers and peace ~ Elinor

Thank you! Love the Methodist Church’s growing choir for Christ the Lord is Risen Today. Brings back good memories of my youth choir days in the tiny Methodist Church in Mendham, NJ, where I learned to love choir singing. Hang in there — we are thinking of you and your family — and Happy Easter!

Elinor, I was looking forward to this, this am. And your writing was just perfect. I did chuckle at the “we can’t smell” and on this glorious day, I do have my smell AND taste back. On a more serious note, I have turned to god in a way that I have not before, in these last months. He.Is.Risen. you realize you have to keep your blog going, past this holiday, right? xoxoxoxoxoox

Thank you! I did a reply yesterday and lost it while trying to post a UTube link to: Daddy and Daughter Duet, The Prayer. I can’t get it to post here, but would encourage your readers to go find the link and listen to the timely prayer sung by a father and his high school daughter from their living room. So beautiful.
